Bradley Gearhart, Lecturer, Earth Sciences and Science Education; and Dan MacIsaac, Associate Professor, Physics

Bradley F. Gearhart, lecturer in the Earth Sciences and Science Education Department and New York State Master Teacher Program; and Dan MacIsaac, associate professor of physics, published the cover article for the January 2020 issue of the Physics Teacher, “A Practical Classroom iPad Shadowgraph System” 58 (1): 8–11. The article traces the modification of R&D apparatus and imaging techniques from the Western New York industrial labs of Praxair (now Linde) Corporation for Buffalo Public Schools high school physics classrooms. Article photographs image “invisible” gas phenomena such as air convection; the cover photo features a shadowgraph image of Gearhart’s own breath exhalation in air. A preprint is freely available from ResearchGate.
