Academic Advising Tip of the Week: Refer Students to Tutoring

Here's one easy thing you can do this week to help the students you advise:

The college has been expanding the free tutoring services it offers to students in anticipation of the opening of the Academic Commons in the renovated E. H. Butler Library. Although the library is currently under construction, these tutoring services are already fully operational in other temporary spaces across campus. Students can find hours and locations online, and can easily book appointments with tutors via the Bengal Success Portal

If you encounter students who are struggling in a course or on an assignment—or who just need help with fundamental study skills, like time management and effective textbook reading—encourage them to take advantage of these excellent resources! And did you know that as an adviser or instructor, you can now use the Bengal Success Portal to make a tutoring referral with the click of a button.

For more information about tutoring at Buffalo State, please visit the Academic Commons website or contact one of the following individuals:

Students enrolled in the Educational Opportunity Program can also access free academic mentoring through EOP's Academic Center for Excellence.

This Tip of the Week has been brought to you by the Academic Advising Advisory Council (AAAC). Got a great advising tip you'd like to share (or some feedback about academic advising at Buffalo State)? Contact AAAC co-chairs Lisa Berglund, professor of English, or Aimee Woznick, director of the Academic Commons.

Have a question, concern, suggestion, or technical problem with the Bengal Success Portal? Contact bengalsuccess@buffalostate.edu.
